Mandakolathur Stala Varalaru

Mandakolathur is situated on the banks of the river Cheyyar in Polur taluk of Tiruvannamalai district in Tamil Nadu - South India

This village has a hoary past and was a centre of vedic learning. It is also mentioned in the 10th century stone inscriptions of Chlola Kings who ruled Tamil Nadu gloriously.

There is a Sivan temple where Lord Shiva is called Dharmanatheswarar and His consort Dharmasamvardhini. This temple is more than 1000 years old. The Lord was believed to be worshipped by Pancha Padavas. This place is one of the Saptha Kailasa kshetrams situated on the banks of river Cheyyar. It is also known as Dhakshina Kailasam. In fact, river Cheyyar was created by Lord Subramaniya, when His mother Kamakshi moved from Kancheepuram to Tiruvannamalai to be part of Lord Shiva and enroute she asked for water and the river was created by breaching Javadumalai

So, Shiva temple in Mandakolathur is blessed with Moorthy, Sthalam and Theertham. It is also historically well known.

The temple was in a delapidated condition. Earlier Kumbhabhishekam was held in 1927. After throughly renovating the Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 27th Jan 2000.
